Baby Led Solids

My mama heard of this, and it made a lot of sense. She tried it for a while and has been letting me eat on my own more since she got this book from Anjali's mama Madhavi. I have had so many fun times of discovery, exploration and adventure. Sometimes I don't eat a lot, actually eat, and sometimes I eat everything. It can be hard for my mama and daddy, or anyone around me, to trust that I know what I am doing and can learn what I need to know. For instance, just now my mama gave me a strawberry, which I love, with the little green hat of leaves on. I mouthed that a time or two and realized it wasn't so tasty, but how to get to the good part that was in my hand? I opened my hand a little and started chowing down. I softened the strawberry with my gums and my fingers. At one point I got so excited that I feel over and bonked my head. A bit of strawberry got stuck. I gagged a bit and then got more silent (a cue for actual choking as opposed to noisy gagging). My mama could tell I was trying to heave it out with my muscles so she smacked my back once. That was all I needed. I coughed up a piece of strawberry, yelled at my mama when she tried to take the whole thing, and happily at the piece left in my mouth. In fact, I ate the whole strawberry and a number of the blueberries offered -- I smash those in my hands. At the end of my adventure, when my bath time had come, my mama noticed I was still playing with something in my mouth. I crawled over to the piano and played a few tunes before my daddy came to get me for my bath. Since play time was over I stuck out what was in my mouth since my mama was so interested. It was the little green leaf hat on the strawberry. I ate every bit of that thing and sucked the hat clean, too!

EC Update

My papa's friend Sean gave me his nephew's potty. My mama was going to put it away because my legs can't touch when I'm sitting on it. Now that I can crawl though, she left it out downstairs next to the piano or the table where I like to stand up and play. Twice now, I have crawled over to it and pottied (with help).

On the other hand, I often kick and scream when my mama takes me potty. Sometimes I want to keep playing or maybe I feel uncomfortable. Whatever it is, I am still communicative about the potty. Sometimes I even sign and wait. I wait a good deal, actually.

So overall, I am starting to be more independent in this as well as everything else in my life.

Konkani Songs

Many of my family members sang these songs to me this past week. My mama and daddy want to learn them.

More of Me and Atikan

Atikan was so nice to share his toy with me, but I wanted the toy he reserved for himself. I do get fussy these days when people don't give me what I want or when they take things I want to play with.

This exersaucer is a favorite of Atikan's, but he wanted me to play in it. I just like chatting back and forth with him and crawling around.

It's Official!

I am a crawling baby!

I Love Spinach!

When I was at Aunt Pin's house, my mama offered me some spinach. I ate it right up, no problem. She offered me more; I ate that. I even ate more! Tender baby spinach leaves are so sweet, juicy and nutritious. YUM!

Generosity and Admiration

I'm not sure what Atikan is saying to me, but my mama thinks the phone rings and he is handing me the phone (that I don't take) which he then answers himself.

Smmmmoothie!

A "Real" Visit to Pin Auntie's House

Aksara, Atikan, Pin Auntie, and Lana Auntie

Atikan let me borrow his potty. He is so nice!

I liked playing with Atikan. In fact, I spent a lot of the visit watching, playing with and talking to him.

Atikan likes his light saber.

Atikan seemed interested in me, too.

Signing Update

I am definitely signing at times. Sometimes it's "potty," sometimes "all finished." My "milk" sign is more like a furious clenching of my fists.

When my mama signs "sleep" to me, I am now more responsive. I generally quiet down and go into sleep mode in the carseat or get a bit more patient...unless I'm desperate.

WARNING: Wedding Memories Ahead

The next several bits are from my experiences down in DC for my Ajitmam's wedding to Janine Auntie. They were easily the two best weddings I have ever been to, one Christian and one Hindu. I had some teething pain, didn't get to sleep or eat well for days, and was passed from person to person fairly often, but I still had a great time, met some wonderful people and learned a lot -- like how to wave!

Me and Bala Auntie

The third day of wedding festivities found me having a hard time, even in the morning. Of course, my mama later realized that probably my teeth were a big part of the issue.

Tuckered Out

The wedding was go go go all day -- lots of noise, lots of people, lots of passing around...it was quite overstimulating.
