Sleepytime

The other day, I was playing and playing until bedtime came. I was with my E-ma and daddy when I had just had enough awake time. I told them by signing "sleep" that I was tired and ready for bed. My mama came, and I nursed and fell asleep in 5 minutes. The door creaked and I woke up, but after a focused nurse session I fell back asleep in about 10 minutes. The next day, I signed sleep for a nap to my mama. She likes this idea of me telling her I am ready for sleep. Sometimes, though, I am just too sleepy to say.

Awake Nook

Skype with Mamama and Poppa

As you know, I love to Skype. I Skype will all my grandparents and we try a lot with my Zofta. My mama likes that I get to know my grandparents. I get excited to see them, know their voices, like their little games. My mama is always trying to get my Mamama and Poppa to speak Konkani to me so she can videotape and learn herself. Here are some fun moments of me (and my mama) learning Konkani and of me playing some fun games with my Poppa especially.

More Nooking

Rockin Nookah

Diaperhead

My mama and daddy were talking about how I need a hat now and how I don't like hats and immediately pull them off my head. They said I need one with ear flaps and string. Anjali has good hats; I think I will just ask her for her opinion on the best hats. My daddy then thought it would be funny to put my diaper on my head. I did fit and would keep my ears warm, but.....

Daddy Days

My mama goes to work early. That means she has to leave me even earlier to get ready. My teeth have really been hurting me, so sometimes after she puts me down and leaves to get ready I wake up. Then my daddy comes in. He comforts me, walks me around, sings to me, chants, whatever I need. Lately, though, we have both been so tired some mornings that he will give me some clove oil and homeopathics for the pain and then we snuggle and sleep till the sun rises fully and we are both more rested. Here is me getting some comfort from my daddy before drifting off again.

Big Girl Sleeping

I am almost a year old. Most babies stop being swaddled when they are younger. I still like being swaddled. My mama has been testing me unswaddled now and again for months now. So far, I have slept quicker, better and longer swaddled. Today I went on a long walk to the farmers market with my family and back after a morning of play. I fell asleep in the sling just as we were arriving home. My mama took me out and put me on the bed. I woke up but nursed down in a minute or two. I especially like to sleep on my belly now. I stay asleep best that way if my mama leaves. Here's me asleep...

Teething

I continue to teeth. Another rough patch. They are definitely close, very close. I am having trouble sleeping because my teeth ache. My mama gives me homeopathics that help me with symptoms, but the clove oil she puts on my gums numbs the pain so I can drop off to sleep. I have been needing extra comfort and mama loving lately.

Reading Books and Playing in Nooks

Meeting the New Neighbors

Yesterday the new neighbors were outside. I was watching my mama and daddy look out the window and wanting to look out myself. My mama put me up there to look out the window. I talked to them from the window. Then my mama and I went outside and met them, well Neighbor Anthony anyway. I had such a nice time. Now that I am bigger I think about outside a lot. Sometimes when I am playing I point outside and sign doggie. Now I point outside and look for the neighbors.

Language

I am ready to start talking and communicating using language my parents understand. Today I was in the potty with my mama when I pointed to the bath and said "Thath!" My mama said "bath?" and I shook my finger-pointing arm animatedly to show her I did mean bath. Then later after I finished the frozen apple she had given me to help my teeth I started fussing. Mama asked if I wanted more apple. I fussed a bit more and said "Mmm-A! Mmm-A!" She said "want to come to mama," and I cried. So, she said "do you want milk?" and she signed milk and I distinctly signed milk. I am getting to be such a big girl. My mama said she was thankful that she has been reveling in pre-language me because I am going to be talking soon and all these cute little sounds will be no longer.

Peek!

Growth Spurt?

My mama thinks that maybe I just got through a growth spurt. Last week, I was clingy, fussy, restless, and sleepless. The past two or three days I have slept easier, longer and better. I feel more independent and safe. The other day my mama was in the bathroom and I went out and into my playroom and played by myself. That is the first time my mama noticed that I have felt so comfortable being on my own. She thought it was a moment, a realization that I am growing up. This coupled with the fact that the other night I felt bigger and heavier to her is making her all kinds of nostalgic. She keeps stroking my cheek and hugging and kissing me extra much. Silly mama, doesn't she know that I am all about growing up? Yes, I think she does.....

Understanding

I know things. I know a lot of things that people don't know I know. For instance, today my daddy found out that I know "ball." He said to me, "Where's your ball, Uma? Want to play with your ball?" I looked around, pointed to my ball, went and got it, and passed it to my daddy. This afternoon I was eating an apple and got distracted with something until my mama said, "Uma where's your apple? Are you eating your apple?" I stopped, looked at her, looked at my hand where the apple was and started eating again. I really like lights. Many times, when I walk into a new place, I look up to find the lights. I then sign to my mama "Light," and when she says "Light" I feel so happy to be understood.

I have a lot to learn, but I am definitely starting to understand.

Climbing Nook

I am a climber. I don't mind if the thing I am climbing on is solid or still. I like a challenge. I am fairly cautious and know where the edge is and generally make good decisions like going to a part of the bench that is closer to something to get down onto. My mama and daddy are on alert often, but they trust me a good deal to explore and gain confidence. I appreciate that and have learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of accomplishing.

Skyping

I skype with people fairly regularly. I like to talk to people on the phone and on Skype. Any time I see an open computer, I take the opportunity to talk loudly to whoever might be on. When I'm on Skype I still feel comfortable acting like myself. I give kisses, climb up and down and talk and sing. Here are some moments from Skyping with my Grandpa.
